When was Rudgwick Chapel founded?
The Chapel has a long history - if not as long as our friends at the parish church! It has been known in the village as a non-conformist place of worship since it was built as long ago as 1824. The building has been modified and extended on a number of occasions but even today it remains small, giving it a friendly, intimate feel which many people find attractive.
What does 'evangelical' mean?
It means primarily that we put a special emphasis on the following:
- The Bible. This we take as God's special revelation for all people, to be taken literally where it is clearly intended to be taken literally, with other parts being understood for the message they are designed to convey
- The death and resurrection of Christ. This is at the heart of the Christian message which proclaims the good news that through these momentous events we can find peace with God
- Personal faith. We believe that for a person to enjoy new life as a Christian it is necessary to take a specific step of personal repentance and faith. We encourage baptism by immersion as an outward sign of an inner change.
What are the main activities?
- Sunday mornings. This is the main service when we meet together at 10.30 am for worship and Bible teaching. On the first Sunday of the month we have a more informal Family Service designed for people of all ages. Most people stay for tea or coffee which is served every week at the end of the service.
- Sunday evenings. We meet at 6.30 pm for prayer and fellowship in a more informal way. All are welcome to join us.
- Tuesday mornings. On the last Tuesday of each month at 10 am there is a coffee morning at the Chapel. All are welcome to come for coffee and a chat. On other Tuesdays a cell group meets in the Chapel for Bible study.
- Tuesday evenings. A Home Group meets each week at 8 pm for practical Bible discussions, on a rota at different homes. Please ask for details of the venue.
- Thursday afternoons. On the first Thursday of each month at 3 pm we have the Golden Fellowship with afternoon tea and an inspirational talk for senior citizens.
